Dominique Calvillo Soto Maternity Shoot
When I first discovered I was pregnant, I was a little shocked. Alexis and I always wanted to have kids but she materialized a little earlier than we were planning for. Though she was a happy surprise, she was a surprise none the less and I needed to process…
I had a gorgeous handmade sequin yarn from India that truthfully, I was a little intimidated by. Sequins are hard to work with and leave little room for error. I decided to sit with my fears and make something to celebrate my power to create.
I wanted to make something that was ultra feminine and something fit for a goddess. I wanted to celebrate and honor my womanhood and what my body was doing. The female body is so powerful and connected to the divine that even without my conscious mind involved, I was creating the most beautiful thing I could ever imagine- my daughter. I began to see myself as a vessel for God to create this baby girl whose existence and life was so much bigger than me or my plans.
Our baby girl was made in pure love and as she grows, so does our love and commitment to one another. I can’t wait to bring her into a family and world where the foundation of her life is love.
